What to Expect From a Dental Exam in Livermore

Dental ExamWhen you visit us for a dental exam in Livermore, we will conduct a physical examination and take X-rays. Our objective is to identify health problems you currently have, along with any issues that seem to be on the horizon. For example, we can identify signs of tooth decay and offer treatment solutions. However, we can also determine if your gums appear to be red and swollen. If they do, you may not have gum disease yet, but steps may be required to prevent the condition from developing. There is no way to say for certain what we may find during a dental exam, but our goal always remains the same to keep you in excellent oral health. Here is how we recommend doing so:

Keep in Good Oral Health with a thorough dental exam

Clean your teethEven if an individual is diligent with brushing and flossing, it is hard to reach every area in the mouth. As a result, plaque and tartar can build up and create infections, cavities and gum disease. To help, we can professionally clean the teeth and gums to remove this plaque and tartar. Doing so twice a year can help people remain in excellent oral health. If, however, we do notice signs of gum disease, we may recommend a deep cleaning. This takes longer and is more invasive, but it allows us to remove the plaque and tartar that have built up under the gum line.

Fluoride.Preventative care is more than simply cleaning teeth. We can give you and your children a fluoride treatment in order to strengthen your teeth. This is a huge benefit, and so we suggest children and teens have a fluoride treatment annually. We can do this during a routine dental exam in Livermore.

X-rays.We take X-rays during your appointment so we can see what is happening inside your teeth. If you have an infection, it may be only uncomfortable now, but can create intense pain in the future. When we notice signs of an internal infection, we are likely to recommend a root canal, since this treatment allows us to remove the infected area and save the tooth.

Dental sealant. If you have deep ridges on the chewing surfaces of your teeth, we may recommend that you have dental sealant brushed onto them. This creates a barrier that prevents food and plaque from touching that portion of your tooth, thereby preventing cavities.

Completing restorations. When you visit us for a dental exam in Livermore, we will identify if you have any damage. If you have a crack or chip in one of your teeth, we will recommend treating it right away. Restoring your teeth is important because it provides you with a chewing surface that is sturdy and reliable and prevents you from experiencing any unnecessary discomfort.

Our goal is to help you remain in excellent oral health so you can keep your natural teeth for a lifetime. These regular appointments allow us to be your partner in oral health for years to come. To learn more, call our office at (925) 443-7645 and schedule a dental exam.
