In an Emergency Find a Dentist That Can Treat You Right Away

Find a DentistWhen dental emergencies occur, you need to find a dentist that can treat your injury quickly.  We offer flexible appointment time and can help right away. As with all emergencies, dental emergencies occur when people least expect them and at the most inconvenient of times. Typically caused by an accident, sporting or otherwise, a trip to our office can save a tooth, restore the damaged area, and reduce pain. It is important to know what constitutes a dental emergency and what steps to take to help reduce the pain before heading in to our dentist office. Taking precautions to safeguard your mouth after an accident is also important.

What warrants an emergency trip to the emergency dentist (What is a dental emergency)?

Anytime the mouth experiences trauma and you are in distress, a trip to our dentist office may be warranted. There is no reason for you to remain in extreme pain when modern medicine has ways of quickly reducing the pain and allows us to heal the damage. Some common reasons why people visit our office are:

•    Chipped or broken teeth caused due to careless actions, like opening a bottle with your teeth, or because of an accident.
•    Knocked out teeth, which are also caused by accidents or by getting into a rough situation, like a fight, where you might lose a tooth.
•    Severely bitten tongue or lips, which could be as a result of biting down too hard, accidently, on your tongue or accidently biting your lip, causing excessive bleeding. If this happens, you need to find a dentist that can examine you right away.
•    Something stuck between your teeth, which is causing pain and cannot be removed using dental floss and rinsing.
•    Fracturing the mandible or breaking your jaw because of an accident, a fall, or getting punched in the mouth.
•    A tooth infection that leads to extreme pain in the infected tooth and surrounding gums.

Are there any steps to take before visiting the dentist?

There are steps in each of these conditions that can be taken to reduce pain, minimize the swelling, and protect the mouth from further damage. For all of these you can do the following, before going into the emergency dentist:

•    Apply a cold compress to the site of the injury. Using ice or frozen vegetables and a light pressure, you can use cold to reduce the swelling and also help with localized pain.
•    If you are bleeding, use a cloth and pressure to reduce or stop the bleeding. If you cannot stop the bleeding, it is time to go to the emergency room.
•    Taking over the counter pain medication is also an option. Just remember that you should not take aspirin if you are bleeding, as aspirin acts as a blood thinner and could increase the blood flow. Also, you will want to note the time and dosage of the pain medication to tell your emergency dentist.

The most important thing you can do is to find a dentist that can see you immediately. We will work to accommodate your needs and schedule an appointment so that you can be seen right away.  Let us know what you are dealing with so that we can treat you and assist with the healing process.
